How these calculations work

What the engine computes, what it declines to compute, and how to read the difference.

The settings in use

Ayanamsa
Lahiri (Chitra Paksha)
Node
mean_node

Positions come from the Swiss Ephemeris. The ayanamsa is fixed for every calculation on this site, so two screens can always be compared against each other.

Where a value comes from

Every figure shown on this site is computed when you request it, from the date, time and place you supply. Nothing is a stored sample and nothing is carried over from a previous visitor. If a calculation cannot be performed, the screen says so rather than showing an approximation.

What the engine will not do

Some combinations require a rule table we do not yet hold to a standard we trust. In those cases the engine returns nothing at all rather than an estimate, and this site shows the gap instead of filling it. That is deliberate. A plausible wrong figure is worse than a visible absence, because only one of the two can be checked.

What has been verified

Computing a value correctly and proving it matches an independent reference are different things, and only the first is done. The validation status page reports exactly how many reference charts are on record and how many have been matched. Please read anything here alongside your own sources.
